Fractional laser skin resurfacing is a non-invasive laser therapy involving an intense light beam that treats damaged surface skin. Treatment with a fractional laser can improve skin elasticity and texture, fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, melasma and other dyschromia (skin discolorations). Unlike other laser skin resurfacing, fractional lasers only target small areas, leaving surrounding areas untouched (hence the name). This can result in a faster, easier recovery.
Sheperd Integrative Dermatology uses the ICON laser by Palomar. This laser uses an array of high-precision microbeams to treat the skin. This triggers a natural healing process which causes the skin to smooth and tighten. This laser treatment improves skin texture, sun damage, pore size, scars, and stretch marks. ICON fractional laser achieves excellent skin resurfacing results. It uses laser energy microbeams to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the epidermis into the dermis. The body's natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in healthier, younger-looking skin. The ICON works on all skin types, including very light and very dark skin. It boasts flexible treatment of numerous conditions. Most sessions last for no longer than an hour. You can decide whether to treat multiple skin complaints at once, or over successive treatments.
Our combination treatment also includes an IPL Photofacial using our xeo system from Cutera to enhance the results. Often referred to as a laser, IPL (intense pulsed light) is a light-based treatment that is extremely popular and effective for treating sun damage, brown spots, age spots, facial redness, red blood vessels and improving overall skin texture and tone. An IPL Photofacial is gentle and non-invasive, offering minimal downtime and an extremely high patient satisfaction rate.
